Richmond's Bug Hotspots

In Richmond, we're extraordinarily gifted when it comes to habitat. I've compiled a list of places below, not all of them in Richmond proper. While this blog has Richmond in the title, neither its coverage nor my collecting activites are limit to that mere geographical boundary. I use the name "Richmond" in this blog to cover Chesterfield, Henrico, and Varina. Here is the list:

- Dutch Gap  Conservation Area, Chesterfield County, VA
- Anirav Pool, Varina County, VA (pool area is surrounded by forests)
- Pony Pasture, Richmond City, VA
- Chimborazo Park, Church Hill, Richmond, VA
- Midlothian Mines, Chesterfield County, VA
- Larus Park, Chesterfield County, VA
- Huguenot Park (on Robious road), Chesterfield County, VA
- Maymont Park, Richmond City, VA
- Byrd Park, Richmond City, VA
- Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA), The Fan, Richmond, VA (The Sculpture Garden)

Other places to visit in VA (these are places that my Natural history teacher takes the freshman class):

- Piney Grove, Sussex County, VA
- Humpback Rocks, Shenandoah Nat. Park, VA
- Colonial Parkway, Williamsburg, VA
- Shenandoah National Park, VA
- Rockfish Gap, Shenandoah Nat. Park, VA
- Bethel Beach, Matthews County, VA

My Natural History teacher likes to visit lots of sites around VA, so every year he takes the freshman to them on field trips (to find insects, birdwatch, find salamanders). I just included the ¨outside Richmond¨ part b/c these places are so cool, and I think that you should visit them regardless of whether or not they are in-bounds.
